2024 ECA Appraisal Road Show Brought In Nearly $2,300 for Worthy Causes
At the ECA Appraisal Roadshow April 6, 2024, more than 120 attendees brought in 88 vintage items – some classic, some quirky – to learn their worth. Dolls, paintings, glassware, ivory, vases, pocket watches… you name it.
A team of judges selected a violin-shaped mirror in a Black Forest wood sculpture as the “most unusual item,” although a Thai headdress and a Howdy Doody toy were in the running. Baseballs signed by Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, and Ted Williams were valued at up to $1,000 each. An eye-catching black-and-blue portrait was estimated at $700. A lamp that the owner said “was just sitting in my basement” could fetch $1,200 if he sold it.
Appraiser Todd Peenstra kept the show lively and fun, while demonstrating his vast knowledge of art and antiques. In addition to the $10 fee attendees paid for each item appraised, ECA raised funds via cash donations, raffles of gifts from local businesses, a 50-50 raffle, and an auction of future appraisal services. Mr. Peenstra donated his time, and the Eastport Democratic Club donated the venue. Thanks to everyone who pitched in to make this a successful event!
