Look at all ECA accomplished in 2023!
The ECA is your voice in the community and greater Annapolis. In 2023 we worked hard on projects that would be impossible without your membership dollars and volunteer efforts.
Here’s a sampling:
- Hosted a new “fun-raising” event, the Appraisal Roadshow, featuring a nationally recognized appraiser who gave informal feedback on antiques, art, and other “priceless” items in our garages. Thanks to the Eastport Democratic Club for partnering with ECA for a truly fun afternoon.
- With the Eastport Business Association (www.eastportbusinessassociation.org) surveyed Eastporters to learn their top issues and sent detailed comments on the 400-page Annapolis Comprehensive Plan, which guides the City’s development through 2040 (www.annapolis.gov/1446/2040-Comprehensive-Plan).
- Awarded $8,000 in grants to worthy Eastport organizations for youth mentoring, invasive species removal, Eastport oral history, school clothing for needy children, defibrillators for the fire department, and more.
- Joined with leadership of the Housing Authority of the City of Annapolis (www.hacamd.org) to advocate for ramped-up public safety in response to the recent increase in gun violence in Eastport. There is no higher priority than the safety of our neighborhoods and we are determined to work with the police and our State, County and City representatives to effect workable solutions.
- Commented on pending legislation regarding parking, traffic, outdoor dining, and other issues that affect quality of life in Eastport. Our Legislation/Regulations Committee continues to track City regulations and ordinances ─ exacting and time-consuming work.
- Reviewed plans for developing or renovating more than a dozen properties in the Eastport Conservation District for compliance with local architecture and character (Architecture and Zoning Committee).
- Attended Choice Neighborhood Initiative (eastportcni.org) planning meetings and participated in a task force for a major redevelopment of Harbour House and Eastport Terrace, properties managed by HACA. CNI is a grant project of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development that could bring $50 million to the community to improve the lives of low-income citizens.
- Advocated for increased water access in Eastport, so locals have expanded options for launching kayaks and small watercraft.
- Sponsored the annual ECA picnic at Safe Harbor Marina for a community-wide celebration and “thank you” to firefighters and police.
- Planted flowers and cleaned up the landscape as part of our ongoing “Neat Streets” beautification initiative.
- Kept ECA members up to date on activities and issues via our email newsletter, website, and Facebook page.
- Distributed Welcome Gift Bags to new Eastport residents to supply them with local resource listings, plus valuable coupons and gift cards.
- Brought expert speakers to ECA meetings to help you learn more about topics such as:
- City plans for traffic management and pedestrian safety.
- Ways to protect our local environment.
- How to prevent crime, including deterring thefts, storing guns properly, reporting suspicious activity, etc.
Thanks for supporting ECA. Please help out this year by renewing your membership and volunteering for committees and projects.
