Committees
Committees Advance ECA’s Goals
Volunteering brings neighbors together to help make Eastport a better place – and have fun at the same time. ECA members can volunteer in many ways, including joining an ECA committee or simply applying your skills to specific tasks. We need your time and talents!
ECA’s standing committees are listed below. Click the committee title to read a description. We also form short-term work groups and ad-hoc committees to focus on a specific task or problem. Submit our online volunteer form to share your skills or serve on a committee.

Other Activities
The activities below occur only once a year. ECA also needs help with special events and fundraising, and seeks members for work groups and ad-hoc committees to focus on specific tasks.
- Nominations – to solicit, interview, and propose nominees to fill vacancies and serve on the coming year’s Board. (Composed of three members; one from the current Board and two from ECA membership.)
- Financial Review – Examines the Association’s accounts and reports to membership at the Annual Meeting. (Committee composed of at least two regular members selected by the Board.)
- Annual Picnic – Organizes and promotes annual social event for members; invites local police and firefighters as a thank-you for their service.
Standing Committee Descriptions
- Architecture & Zoning
Works with the city’s Planning & Zoning Department and other City agencies on the architectural and zoning aspects of projects proposed in the Eastport Conservation District (both new construction and renovations). Considers architectural aspects of development that affect the character and quality of the Eastport community, including the Residential Conservation Overlay and the Eastport Gateway Ordinance.
- Communications
Focuses on ECA’s external communications, including the newsletter, email blasts, website, Facebook, and other communication initiatives.
- Grants
Reviews grant applications from community nonprofits and charities and awards grants once a year. To fund these grants, ECA relies on the generosity of donors and the proceeds from ECA fundraising events. ECA’s grant monies are allocated to causes in the areas of education, the environment, general welfare, and civic life. See Worthy Causes.
- Legislation & Regulation
Monitors government proposals and activities to identify those relevant to the Eastport community. As needed, gathers information, meets with officials, recommends courses of action, and submits written comments.
- Membership
Engages in activities to recruit new ECA members and retain existing ones, including membership drives and satisfaction surveys. Maintains membership database and manages dues reminders; distributes Welcome Bags to new residents.
- Neat Streets/Neighborhood Beautification
Undertakes hands-on projects to improve Eastport’s physical appearance, protect the environment, and maintain property values. Through efforts such as Neat Streets and Greenscape, the committee takes part in planting, weeding, debris and trash removal, and similar tasks.
- Planning & Major Development
Focuses on the nature and impact of current and future development in Eastport. Communicates with City agencies, Eastport citizens, developers, relevant experts, advocacy groups, and business owners regarding the scope, nature, and impact of major development projects. May review and comment on infrastructure (e.g. roads, traffic, schools, open space) and possible effects of development.
- Public Safety
Monitors issues related to crime and vehicular/pedestrian safety; maintains liaison as needed with City agencies such as the Annapolis Police Department or Public Works.
- Public Water Access
Works to identify, improve, and expand public water access locations for launching small watercraft such as paddleboards and kayaks, for fishing and crabbing, and for other water-based activities in and near Eastport. Includes engaging with the City of Annapolis to develop a comprehensive water access map, add good signage to all public water access sites, renovate existing sites, etc.
