3rd Annual ECA Appraisal Roadshow Community Fundraiser

Due to popular demand, there will be 2 shows this year!

What’s Your Vintage Object Worth? Find out at the ECA Appraisal Roadshow Fundraiser for Youth Programs
Saturday, March 29th in Eastport

Bring art, jewelry, collectibles and more to have them accessed at lively afternoon event. The ECA will donate proceeds to programs for youth.

Check your home for objects you’ve wondered about and bring them to the Eastport Democratic Club on Saturday, March 29th, for expert appraiser Todd Peenstra to assess. For four decades Peenstra has worked with world-renowned collectors and everyday owners throughout the U.S. and Europe.

The appraisal cost is $15 per item and you can bring as many as you want. You’ll walk away knowing your object’s value for insurance purposes, estate planning, potential sale or to satisfy your curiosity.

“Great stories emerge when I talk with people about their items,” Peenstra said. “At appraisal shows, we have fun and learn lots of interesting things about the artifacts and their owners.” Big surprises are possible, he said, like when he conducted an estate appraisal for a woman whose father had died. “Stuck in an unmarked folder, amid old bank statements and phone bills, was a vellum animal skin document that named a man – it would have been a privateer – whose ship was brought into service for the United States, back before the U.S. Navy was formed.” Imagine the loss, Peenstra said, if she’d dumped all her dad’s files unexamined. “The document was signed by Thomas Jefferson and John Adams and worth about $75,000.”

At the show, Peenstra can appraise jewelry, coins, silver, glass, porcelain, pottery, art, clocks, toys, tools, small furniture, decoys, lamps, nautical items, musical instruments, walking sticks and collectibles. He cannot appraise weapons, large furniture, books or stamps.

“We had such fun last year, and the event was so popular, we had to bring it back,” said Bill Reichhardt, president of the Eastport Civic Association. “We’re hoping to raise even more funds this time around for programs that support local youth. Because Todd Peenstra is donating his time and the Eastport Democratic Club is donating the venue, it’s really a community effort.”
